Sami Makaroun, MD is an assistant professor in the division of Maternal Fetal Medicine and director of the Center for Advanced Fetal Diagnostics at Magee-Womens Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He was born in the hospital in which he currently works and appreciates the opportunity to serve the community that helped raise him in Pittsburgh. He has a strong academic and research interest in obstetric ultrasound and ultrasound education, particularly the imaging and diagnosis of fetal anomalies. He is actively involved in lectures and other formal education to medical students, residents, and fellows at the University of Pittsburgh. He has lectured at the American Institute for Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) on multiple occasions over several years prior to this teaching opportunity at SMFM. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, playing piano, creative writing, and is actively trying to learn Japanese.
