Prenatal ultrasound is a nearly ubiquitous, but strongly operator dependent, screening tool for pregnancy assessment. In the setting of limited training or experience, there may be an increased risk of undiagnosed fetal anomalies, non-fetal obstetric pathology, or gynecologic pathology. However, other implications of widespread use may also include the potential for overdiagnosis of findings with limited or nuanced clinical implications, increased maternal anxiety, and increased financial costs. This course will guide learners through these challenges by.......

Learning Objectives:

  • Review the latest practice guidance from AIUM and SMFM pertaining to first and second trimester ultrasound examinations.
  • Identify the appropriate clinical scenarios for both specific ultrasound exams (eg. nuchal translucency, cervical length, and detailed anatomic surveys) and for specific ultrasound techniques (eg. B-mode, Doppler, and 3D ultrasound with multiplanar reconstruction).
  • Describe systematic approaches to identifying specific fetal anomalies to create a foundation for general screening protocols.
  • Analyze techniques in acquiring advanced imaging to screen for common and less common abnormalities.
