In this interactive postgraduate course, we will explore the impact of language on patient-centered abortion care through values clarification, hospital and institutional polices, state and national legislation, and the ensuing confusion created by interpretation across domains. We will provide a multidimensional approach to the importance of consistent abortion care language in clinical, institutional, political, and legal contexts.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize the significance of language in patient-centered abortion care within clinical, institutional, political, and legal contexts.
  • Describe the complexities of patient-centered reproductive decision-making and its impact on access to comprehensive reproductive health, including abortion.
  • Discuss methods to facilitate discussions and advocate for patients at various levels, including the individual, hospital, state, and national levels, to ensure just and equitable reproductive healthcare and enhance access to abortion care.
  • Engage in group discussions to develop strategies for addressing local and institutional issues related to abortion access.
  • Participate in a follow- up Zoom discussion after the course to report on the impact of the knowledge gained at their respective institutions.
