Samuel T. Bauer, MD, MBA, FACHE, CPE, FACOG is a board-certified Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist and an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Medical Director of Duke Perinatal Consultants, Quality and Digital Health in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Duke University. Dr. Bauer is a Certified Physician Executive and a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Dr. Bauer is a board examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Bauer has over 10 years of healthcare leadership experience. As the Physician Executive for OB/GYN and Chief for the Women’s and Children’s Clinical Care Program, he was a key collaborative stakeholder in the creation of the clinical strategic and operational plan for Beaumont Health (now Corewell Health East). He was responsible for OB/GYN portfolio management, operations, credentialing, manpower planning, and quality and safety for a women’s health service including 8 hospitals, over 17,000 births, and Beaumont Children's, which provides care to more than 200,000 children.
At Duke, Dr. Bauer leads a virtual care expansion program team that includes traditional video consultation, remote patient monitoring and ultrasound interpretation. Dr. Bauer’s research focuses on strategies to reduce maternal morbidity. Dr. Bauer has held a State of Michigan Gubernatorial appointment to the Michigan Maternal Mortality Surveillance committees and has served on the Michigan Alliance for Innovation Executive Committee.
Dr. Bauer is a member of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine Maternal Safety & Quality Committee and co-chair of the OB/GYN Section of the Core Quality Measures Collaborative. Dr. Bauer is a member of the National Quality Forum (NQF) - MAP Hospital Workgroup which in partnership with CMS provides input to the US Department of HHS. Dr. Bauer is an ACOG Fellow and Physician Champion for the CDC-funded Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Program.
