My career has been unconventional, starting out as a cardiology fellow who “truly enjoyed” managing cardiac problems in pregnancy with MFM colleagues. I serve on the California Pregnancy Associated Mortality Review Committee since 2009. It has been an exceptional experience, which solidified my passion to improve maternal outcomes. I chaired the Cardiovascular Disease Taskforce that led to the development of the Toolkit in Pregnancy and Postpartum released by California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative in 2017, followed by Toolkit for prevention of venous thromboembolism in pregnancy in 2018. I had the opportunity to serve on the Executive Committee for the ACOG Presidential Task Force for “Women’s Heart Disease “in 2018 that led to the Practice Bulletin. I served on the Expert Panel for The National Pregnancy Resuscitation Program: Development of a Simulation-based Maternal Cardiac Arrest Program for Credentialing Specialists and First Responders.
I serve on the Advisory committee for International Congress of Cardiac Problems in Pregnancy since 2010 that helps structure the most attended international conference on the subject. I chaired the Patient Safety Bundle on Cardiovascular Disease in Pregnant and Postpartum Women by the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM). I co-edited recently released book entitled “Cardio Obstetrics” to advance care for pregnant cardiac patients. I am part of the Cardio Obstetrics work space and plan to being SMFM and ACOG representation into it to further our education in this developing area of interest.
