Dr. Merriam is an Assistant Professor in the department of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Yale University and the Associate Residency Program Director for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program. Originally from upstate New York, she attended medical school at the University of Vermont, where she became involved in Medical Students for Choice and was elected to national leadership in the organization. She completed residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Christiana Care Health System in Delaware and Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship at Columbia University in NYC. While at Columbia she obtained a master’s degree in Biostatistics.
In addition to Medical Students for Choice she has severed on the Junior Fellow Advisory Council for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and as the fellow representative to the board for the Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine. She is the co-chair of the formed Maternal Mortality Review Committee for the state of Connecticut. She continues to speak annually at the Medical Students for Choice conference on maternal-fetal medicine participation in family planning and she is committed to these two specialties working together to optimize healthcare and outcomes for women and their families. She is currently a member of the Education Committee for SMFM and serves as the podcast chair. She has obtained her personal training certification with a specialty in women's fitness, and mulitple nutrition certfications, which help her to optimize oucomes for women in pregnancy.
