Dr. Maya Wolf is the director of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Unit (MFMU), Obstetrics and Gynecology Division at the Galilee Medical Center in the north of Israel. She had completed her residency in OBGYN at Shamir Medical Center. She is a senior lecturer in the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine at Bar-Ilan University, and coordinates the pre-clerkship OBGYN course and the simulation course in laparoscopy and gynecologic examinations for medical students.
Dr. Wolf conducts both basic and clinical research including leading several multicenter studies. She has conducted cohort research concerning preterm premature rupture of membranes including the distribution of pathogens in post-partum placental cultures among patients with P-PROM, and a prospective study comparing two antibiotic regimens as prophylactic treatment in P-PROM. She also carried out a prospective study entitled Vertical transmission of extended-spectrum, beta-Lactamase producing enterobacteriaceae during preterm delivery, and a study examining the rate of positive uterine cultures obtained during cesarean sections. Other studies compared the use of a balloon catheter versus a milk pump for labor induction in women with previous CS; the connection between time of delivery and neonatal cord pH; and the mode of delivery in pregnancies with suspected macrosomia. Ather researches focus addresses the use of a fibroscan test for the detection and severity assessment of preeclampsia; evaluating the effectiveness of colposcopy in the diagnosis of bleeding during the second and third trimesters; and clinical implications of the 100-gram oral glucose tolerance test in the third trimester. Those studies have been published in the American journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Journal of Reproductive Sciences, Microorganisms, Journal of Maternal Fetal Neonatal Medicine, the International Journal of Infectious Diseases and others.
Dr. Wolf has served on many public committees and is the chairperson of the Haifa and northern branch of the Israeli Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
