I am a Professor in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at University of Florida and the Maternal Fetal Medicine Division Director. Since 1994, I have worked in academic medicine and participated in clinical research in five University Institutions. My research interest focused on prematurity, preeclampsia and infectious diseases in obstetrics, including the role of infection in adverse perinatal and maternal outcomes, preterm premature rupture of membranes, and inflammatory process in preeclampsia, diabetes complication and medical education. University of Mississippi Medical Center had a stellar basic science research infrastructure to conduct the animal studies in preeclampsia and polycystic ovary syndrome and their offspring. During my time at UMMC, I was able to contribute to Drs. Jane Reckelhoff and Joey Granger’s grants from our obstetrical service with a large patient population with the clinical pathology to carry out new studies to potentially develop new therapeutic options for women with preeclampsia and PCOS that would improve the outcomes of their pregnancies.
University of Florida Health- department of Obstetrics and Gynecology manages 2700 to 2900 deliveries every year. Our hospital is the main referral center in central Florida and Pan-handle region- we received and managed majority of the high-risk population with multiple obstetrical and medical complications including hypertension, preeclampsia, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and prematurity. The major composition of our obstetrical population includes African American, Hispanic and Caucasian. One of our division clinical research area will focus on noninvasive hemodynamic monitoring to determine best antihypertensive regimen to prolong duration of pregnancy associated with preterm severe preeclampsia. One of our major clinical enterprise is to develop remote telehealth monitoring program for antepartum patients with chronic hypertension, mild preeclampsia and long term monitoring during the postpartum period.
