There is an unacceptable gap and has been for many years in maternal morbidity and mortality amongst the various racial and ethnic
groups. Much data has been published on this occurrence. It is not improving.
This luncheon will discuss the role of the MFM in reducing perinatal health disparities. The session will also provide tips in teaching obstetricians, nursing and maternal-fetal medicine colleagues and others their role in reducing these disparities. A number of factors are involved in producing or reducing perinatal health disparities. These include the health system factors, patient-level factors, our clinical encounters, provider factors, and the so important social determinants or drivers of health. Together, we will explore, define them and then our role in addressing these factors as we manage our patients. Attendees will take away what they should be doing, sharing and teaching if we are to make progress soon in reducing perinatal health disparities.
