Maternal and perinatal outcomes are dependent on optimal preconception health, prenatal and intrapartum care, and optimal transitions of care during the postpartum period. As a maternal fetal medicine specialist, understanding the nuances of optimal medical management of chronic medical conditions is critical to creating a plan of care during and beyond pregnancy. In addition, acute changes in inpatient status due to common obstetric complications (hemorrhage, hypertension, infection) necessitate critical care management in an intensive care unit. Maternal fetal medicine physicians commonly bridge both settings, and optimal medical management for conditions outside of pregnancy continues to rapidly evolve. The goals of this half-day course are to update the knowledge base of obstetric clinicians caring for patients in both settings by providing evidence-based updates from the lens of the non-obstetric, consultant service. Talks will be led by an endocrinologist, cardiologist, pulmonologist, nephrologist, and intensivists.
