Dr. Mitali Ray, PhD, RN (she/her) is a vascular biologist/nurse scientist currently completing postdoctoral training at University of Pittsburgh. She is currently supported by Drs. Akira Sekikawa and Emma Barinas-Mitchell's T32 for training in cardiovascular disease epidemiology in the Graduate School of Public Health and was previously supported by Dr. Yvette Conley's T32 for training nurses in genomics/epigenomics. Dr. Ray's research interests include stress biology, DNA methylation, and racial disparities of cardiovascular disease relative to pregnancy outcomes.
Prior to her postdoctoral training, Dr. Ray earned a BS in Biology (Concentration: Cell & Molecular Biology) from Towson University in 2011, a PhD in Biomedical Sciences (Concentration: Organ Systems and Translational Medicine) from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in 2018, and an accelerated BSN in Nursing from West Chester University of Pennsylvania in 2019. Her graduate work was completed in the lab of Dr. Michael Autieri and focused on characterizing the role of the cytokine, Interleukin-19, in various models of vascular injury and disease and angiogenesis. During her graduate career she was supported by a predoctoral award from the American Heart Association and by Dr. Steven Houser's T32 for training in cardiovascular pathophysiology.
Dr. Ray is from the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania and is an avid Philadelphia sports fan who enjoys cooking, traveling, and playing drums in her spare time.
