Laura Hershey Brubaker, MD, MPH, is a Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellow at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Laura received her undergraduate degree in Nursing at West Chester University of Pennsylvania, class of 2004. She is a graduate of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (MPH, 2008). She began her public health work with PinnacleHealth in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, as their HUD Lead Grant Public Health Nurse with the Children’s Lead Poisoning Prevention Program. She worked in various roles under the umbrella of PinnacleHealth, including as a Nurse Home Visitor in Nurse-Family Partnership and as a Nurse Manager for several specialty practices. Ultimately, she became Program Coordinator for the REACCH (Ryan White grants Part B and C-funded HIV) Program for several years. She obtained her Doctor of Medicine from Penn State Hershey College of Medicine, and trained in the Penn State Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency. Now that she is a fellow at Magee, she is pursuing her research interests in postpartum hypertension and in patient satisfaction with the complicated pregnancy/birth experience, especially as these relate to public health infrastructure and social determinants of health.
