Elizabeth A. Arruda is a medical student at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) committed to advancing women's health and diversity in medicine. Originally from Connecticut, she graduated from Georgetown University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Science. At MUSC, she has been an active leader in numerous organizations, holding executive board positions in the Obstetrics & Gynecology Interest Group as Service Co-Chair, Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) as VP of Communications, and now the LMSA Southeast Regional Board as Conference Co-Chair. She has arranged several events such as packing menstrual supplies for those in need, Spanish clinical skills workshops, and is currently organizing the 2024 LMSA Southeast Regional Conference that will be held at her home institution. Leveraging her fluency in Spanish and devotion to addressing inequities in healthcare, Ms. Arruda volunteers in clinics providing care for Spanish-speaking patients as part of her commitment to tackling health disparities. Her research has spanned a diverse range of topics including maternal-fetal medicine, neurodegenerative disease, and social determinants of health. Outside of medicine, Ms. Arruda enjoys staying active through tennis, yoga, and spin. She is committed to empowering women, eliminating barriers to care, and being a compassionate physician advocating for all patients.
