University of Cincinnati College of Medicine
Noah J. Smith, a Cincinnati native, is currently studying medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, with an expected graduation date of April 2026. He previously earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University. Smith's research interests focus on fetal and neonatal neurology, neuroradiology, and pediatric medical education and wishes to incorporate those passions in a future career in Child Neurology.
He has collaborated with his peers and faculty members at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center to study alpha-1 antitrypsin deficient emphysema. Specifically, they have created and analyzed a murine model of the disease using tracheal porcine pancreatic elastase. Additionally, they have worked on identifying the role of chymotrypsin-like elastase-1 in the progression of the disease.
Smith has shown his dedication to academic medicine by participating on the Admissions Committee at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Furthermore, he is currently studying the pedagogy of medical education and working as a tutor for first-year medical students under the ‘Teaching in Medical Education’ course offered at the UC College of Medicine.
