Senior Epidemiologist

Dr. Catherine J. Vladutiu is a Senior Epidemiologist in HRSA MCHB’s Office of Epidemiology and Research where she aims to bridge public health and clinical medicine to improve maternal outcomes. In this role, she provides technical assistance, data support and consultation for several MCHB programs and initiatives, such as the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health and the federal Healthy Start program. She also serves as a subject matter expert in maternal health. Dr. Vladutiu received a PhD in epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she also completed a pre-doctoral fellowship in reproductive and perinatal epidemiology and a postdoctoral fellowship in cardiovascular epidemiology. She earned an MPH in maternal and child health epidemiology from the University of Rochester.
Dr. Vladutiu has conducted epidemiologic research pertaining to women and children’s health for over eighteen years and has published more than 65 peer-reviewed articles. Her research focuses primarily on the intersection between perinatal health and both cardiovascular and injury epidemiology, with a particular interest in the association between pregnancy and future cardiovascular health. She is also interested in the assessment of strategies for reducing maternal mortality and severe maternal morbidity. In 2018, Dr. Vladutiu received the Early Career Professional Achievement Award in MCH Epidemiology from the Coalition for Excellence in MCH Epidemiology.
Dr. Vladutiu holds additional positions, including as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Departments of Epidemiology and Obstetrics & Gynecology (Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine) at UNC Chapel Hill.
