Brian Mercer, M.D. is a Professor of Reproductive Biology at Case Western Reserve University, and Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology for CWRU- The MetroHealth System in Cleveland Ohio.
Dr. Mercer is a past-president of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM) and currently serves as Chair of the Foundation for the SMFM. He has served on the Boards of the SMFM, the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology, the Central Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Perinatal Quality Foundation. He has served on the editorial boards of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Journal of Maternal Fetal Medicine, and Obstetrics & Gynecology Science, and is an examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Mercer is nationally recognized for his research to improve the health of pregnant women and their unborn babies, with a focus on the prevention of preterm birth and its complications. He has participated in NIH-funded research for over 30 years, with more than 400 published peer-reviewed research manuscripts, editorials and book chapters. He has led the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development’s Maternal-Fetal Medicine Units Network clinical center at MetroHealth, as site Principal investigator for NICHD and NHLBI funded multicenter studies of predictive markers for complications first pregnancies (nuMoM2b) and Pregnancy as a Window to Future Maternal Cardiovascular Health, and participates in First Year Cleveland’s effort to prevent infant mortality.
