Irina Burd, MD, PhD is Sylvan Frieman Endowed Professor and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Burd earned Bachelor of Arts Degree from Rutgers University (Summa Cum Laude) and then completed the MD/PhD program at the Rutgers – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Thomas Jefferson University and her fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Burd developed a research program investigating the pathogenesis of fetal brain injury with exposure to intrauterine inflammation and infecrion, and studies neuroprotective agents that could be used in utero to prevent cerebral palsy and a spectrum of neurobehavioral outcomes.
