Michal A. Elovitz, MD is a tenured physician-scientist and the Hilarie L. Morgan and Mitchell L. Morgan President’s Distinguished Professor in Women’s Health at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Dr. Elovitz brings the clinical and research world together to advance reproductive, pregnancy and women’s health. She has been actively involved in fundamental and translational research for the over 20 years. Her research is or has been funded by the March of Dimes, Burroughs Wellcome Fund, National Institute of Child Health and Development, National Institute for Nursing Research, the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Dr. Elovitz fosters, participates and advocates for collaborative research, from the bench to the bedside, to advance the mission of improving health outcomes for women and their children. Her research program has focused on understanding the mechanisms and consequences of adverse pregnancy outcomes both for the pregnancy of interest and for implications for the long-term health of the mother and child. Her translational research integrating immunology and microbiology with reproductive biology has led to novel discoveries in preterm birth. Dr. Elovitz believes that innovation, bold discovery and team science must be the platform on which to advance pregnancy and women's health; as such, she strives to support the integration of community, providers and scientists across many disciplines. Dr. Elovitz is an active mentor and sponsor for the next generation of female physician-scientists. Dr. Elovitz currently mentors students, postdoctoral fellows, fellows and faculty across many disciplines. She created the Women for Women (W4W) peer mentoring group for women physicians and scientists to promote retention and productivity. As part of her advocacy, she is one of the co-founders and the current Director of the Womxn's Health Collaborative which serves to foster gender and racial equity in women's health.
