Dr. Martin R. Chavez, holds the position of Chief of Maternal Fetal Medicine and Fetal Surgery at NYU Langone Hospital – Long Island. He is highly skilled in managing high-risk pregnancies, adept in ultrasound diagnostics, ultrasound-guided procedures, and fetal surgery.
As a Diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the subspecialty of Maternal Fetal Medicine and a Fellow of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), Dr. Chavez has shown a deep commitment to the advancement of medical ultrasound. His active participation in presentations, research, and clinical trials highlights his dedication to Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) related issues.
Dr. Chavez's academic journey began at CUNY Queens College, followed by his medical education at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He completed both his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and his fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
His research interests are diverse and innovative, focusing on enhancing ultrasound techniques for more accurate determination of gestational age, advancing fetal procedures, improving the diagnosis of fetal conditions, and integrating artificial intelligence into imaging and clinical medicine. His work in academic medicine and teaching prenatal diagnosis is helping train the next generation of doctors.
At NYU Langone Hospital – Long Island, Dr. Chavez is pioneering the use of cutting-edge ultrasound technologies. He is the principal investigator in studies exploring the potential of these technologies in identifying patients at risk of preterm delivery. Additionally, he is implementing artificial intelligence to distinguish between normal and abnormal fetal ultrasounds, a significant advancement in the field.
