My interest in academic medicine lies at the intersection of ophthalmology, women’s health, and health equity. Early in my career at Columbia Ophthalmology, I observed that most patients who seek my care are women. These women may be in their reproductive years and with diabetes, or they may be in later stages of life with age-related macular degeneration. As a retina specialist, I became very interested in preeclampsia, as early stages may be visible in the retina using fundus imaging. For these reasons, I have collaborated with Ron Wapner MD, and Columbia MFM, for over 10 years on various aspects of retinal imaging in the setting of preeclampsia.
