I am Joseph R. Biggio MD, MS and am the the System Chair and Service Line Leader for the Women’s Services, System Chair for Maternal Fetal Medicine, and Director of the Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship at Ochsner Health in New Orleans, LA. I graduated from medical school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine where I also completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as a combined fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine and Clinical Genetics. I also earned a Master’s of Science in Healthcare Quality and Safety from the UAB School of Health Professions. Prior to joining Ochsner Health in 2017, I was Director of the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Vice-Chair for Research and Quality and the Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship Director in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UAB. My major research interests have focused on the health disparities and genetics of prematurity, genetic screening, preterm birth prevention and use of technology to improve obstetric care delivery. I have been involved in multiple national professional organizations including ACOG, where I previously chaired the Committee on Genetics, and SMFM, where I have been a member of the Board of Directors, the Publications Committee and the Program Committees. I am also on the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology Maternal Fetal Medicine Division. In my current role at Ochsner Health, I oversee a clinical care program that provides Women's Healthcare across Louisiana and southern Mississippi.
