Lisa Kane Low PhD CNM FACNM FAAN is a Professor of Nursing, Women's and Gender Studies and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Unviersity of Michigan along with being the Associate Dean for Professional Graduate Studies in the School of Nursing. She is a past President of the American College of Nurse-Midwives and is the current President of the ACNM Foundation. She serves as the ACNM representative to the Committee on Clinical Practice Guidelines – Obstetrics for ACOG.
Lisa Kane Low is a leader in promoting evidence-based practice during childbirth, She is part of the faculty team for the Obstetrics Initiative Quality Collaborative across over 70 hospitals in Michigan. She was on the Executive Committee of the CDC National Perinatal Quality Collaboratives and National AIM Program and is an AIM Steering Committee for Michigan. She led the ACNM Reducing Primary Cesarean Project, a national learning collaborative of hospital based maternity care units that developed and implemented bundles focused on intermittent auscultation, labor progress and comfort measures as key components of their strategies to reduce primary cesarean births. She is also on the Board of Directors of Birth Detroit, a community based organization that is planning a birth center with midwifery led care in the City of Detroit.
She is also a member of the University of Michigan Health Midwifery Service providing full scope midwifery care.
