Though there are many important issues in maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) in the United States that require dedicated attention, low and lower middle-income countries, many of which lack professional societies similar to SMFM, are burdened with upwards of 95% of maternal and perinatal deaths as well as high rates of obstetric and neonatal morbidity. The Global MFM Special Interest Group will further SMFM’s multifaceted goals of engagement of global members, particularly those from resource-constrained countries, with an explicit interest in MFM issues beyond US borders to advance knowledge, education and research through providing an opportunity to connect and collaborate with one another. Attendees can expect to learn about the current status of SMFM's commitment to global health, to hear a recap of some of the pivotal studies and initiatives from 2023, and to engage with colleagues from all over the world!
